Better Vision for Your Children

At Eye Q, we care about your entire family, including your children. We want them to succeed in life and enjoy healthier vision at the same time.

We may recommend myopia control after your child’s eye exam if they are developing myopia (nearsightedness).

Our myopia control therapies can help reshape your child’s vision and protect them from more harmful side effects down the road.

What Is Myopia?

To put it simply, myopia (or nearsightedness) is impaired distance vision.

As children grow, so do their eyes. If their eyes begin to grow too long, or the curvature of their cornea is too curved, it can cause the light entering their eyes to not focus properly.

Myopia has been around for a long time, but thanks to advances in medicine and technology, we are now able to control the growth of children’s eyes if myopia is diagnosed at a young age.

Why Control Myopia?

If your child is developing myopia, it can affect their ability to see the whiteboard in school, watch TV, and eventually could lead to difficulty seeing clearly while driving.

When myopia is left untreated, it can continue to progress and lead to high myopia, putting them at a higher risk of developing eye diseases like cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.

What We Can Do

There are several ways to control myopia. The best time to do this is as early as possible, while your child’s eyes are still developing. The use of contact lenses, eyeglasses, and other methods may help control its progression.

We will be able to recommend the best myopia control for your little one.

Detecting the Issue

You might suspect your child is developing myopia if they squint to see or complain of difficulty seeing objects in the distance.

Your optometrist at Eye Q will test their eyes for myopia at their comprehensive eye exam. Find out if your little one is developing myopia by booking an appointment at Eye Q Optical.
